Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue state on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jerome TorShimbe, has called on Chairmen of the 23 local government areas in the state to focus on payment emoluments of staff and pensioners, as well as remittances to support other agencies of government.
He made this call yesterday at the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting for July, 2020. He assured them that government was committed to ensuring that they embark on meaningful programs that will positively impact their local government areas.
The Chairmen were also briefed of the directive of the Governor to them and the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency management Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Shior, on the steps required of them mitigate the impending flood in some Local Government areas by. These include carrying out a sensitization campaign, clearing of water channels and desilting of rivers and streams. They were also encouraged to step up sensitization campaign on the observation of COVID-19 containment protocols.
He commended the efforts of the Federal Commissioner representing Benue State at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Commissioner, Hon. Adaa Maagbe, whose efforts has seen a little rise in the allocation to the State.
The RMAFC commissioner who attended the meeting charged the Chairmen to ensure that records of their internally generated revenue (IGR) are kept properly as such indices very vital to the improved Allocation to the State and and also asked them to fashion out ways of improving their IGR.
Mr. Akaan Richard, Chief Superintendent of the Nigerian Correctional Centre requested for logistic support from the Chairmen to enable them operate optimally.
The Commissioner of information and culture, Hon Ngunan Adingi, assured them of her ministry’s readiness to guide them on government protocol and effective implementation of the Local Government Laws in the state and urged them to procure the approved official portraits of President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Samuel Ortom and the official Coat of Arms for display in their offices from the ministry.
The state chairman of ALGON and Chairman Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Caleb Aba, who responded on behalf of his colleagues promised to turn around the fortunes of the local government areas and promised to adhere to decisions of the meeting.
