A Makurdi High Court presided over by Justice Augustine Ityonyiman, Tuesday, fixed 13 October for a definite hearing in the suit between Governor Ortom against Comrade Adams Oshomole and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

When the case came up, counsel to Comrade Oshiomole and the APC sought an adjournment because according to them bad weather could not allow them transmit files to their colleague in Makurdi, an application lawyers to Ortom did not object.

Mr Titus Akuhwa Esq who held the brief of Festus Jumbo, informed the court that the substantive counsel could not come to court nor send the file across because of bad weather and promised the matter will go ahead at the next adjourned date.

It will be recalled that at an APC sponsored press conference held on Friday July 27, 2018, Comrade Oshiomhole accused the Governor of having a hand in the death of two Catholic priests and other parishioners at Mbalom community on the ground that one of the priests had preached a ‘very critical sermon’ against the Governor.

Following this press conference, Governor, Samuel Ortom, through his counsel Samuel Irabor Esq, filed a libelous suit at the State High Court against Comrade Adams Oshomole who was then APC chairman and his party claiming damages to the tune of 10 billion naira, a matter which was slated for hearing today but suffered another adjournment.

Briefing journalists shortly after the Court, counsel to Ortom, Samuel Irabor Esq who appeared with two other lawyers said they did not opposed the adjournment sought by the defendants because in future they may raise the issue of fair hearing even though they were obliged adjournment on reason of bad weather.

He revealed that they had already filed six notices of preliminary objections since the commencement of the matter, this Irabor said they did one after the other but the court ruled all in Ortom’s favour.

On why they took a long date, Irabor explained that the court will soon proceed on vacation beginning from the first week of August to resume in September hence the long adjournment saying it will give both counsel enough room to prepare adequately for the matter when court resumes.

Barr Irabor expressed his readiness to table his facts before the Court as he seek justice for his client Governor Samuel Ortom.
