Senator Gabriel Suswam on Wednesday asked the Senate to stepdown the screening of Ambassadorial nominees as he carried of marginalization against his state and constituency.
Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed the nomination of 39 career and non-career ambassadorial nominees out of the 41 names submitted to the Red Chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Suswam representing Benue North-East and other Senators who felt that their state were marginalized through nomination of the carrier and noncarier ambassadors demanded that confirmation of nominees from their states be stepped down until their constituencies are given equal slots.
Senator Suswam and other Senators who were pained by the non egalitarianism played in nomination demanded the presidency to explain criteria used in arriving at the nominees as Senator Suswam submitted that while some states have three nominees, His state Benue and others have one.
Senator Suswam demanded the screening committee Chairman to enlighten Nigerians, the criteria which the nominations were made in respect of States. Some states have three, some have one. So, on what basis were the nominations made and Benue is having only one nominee while states like Kano, Kwara and Oyo had three nominees.
Senator Gabriel Suswam further demanded that confirmation of nominee from his state be stepped down until justice is done to his state and especially his constituency.
